Right in Manly's backyard is North Head Sanctuary - Sydney's secret getaway.
There are over 10 kilometres of easy walking tracks to explore. Start at Shelley Beach and walk through virtually untouched bushland with superb harbour views before finishing at the spectacular Fairfax Lookout.
History buffs should visit North Fort, which was integral to Sydney's defence in World War II. Take a fascinating 45 minute guided tour through North Fort's World War Two tunnels and gun emplacements.
Afterwards, discover Australia's Memorial Walk, which commemorates Australia's involvement in conflicts around the world over the last 150 years. Or wander through the Third Quarantine Cemetery where over 240 people were buried between 1881-1919. Stop for refreshments at Bella Vista Cafe, open seven days a week.
For North Fort Tours are held every Sunday, bookings are Sundays onsite only.
